Location and Company Type Filtering
Our unique filter wizard is split into stages to help guide you through easily and quickly. At the top and bottom of each panel you will see a "Next Step" button. When you have finished on each stage, click this to move to the next stage. If you do not want to make use of a filter, simply leave it blank. If an option has multiple tick boxes, you do not need to select every tick box. Leaving them empty simply means that filter wont be applied.
To capture certain regions of the country, you can provide partial postcodes, either something like M for Manchester, B for Birmingham etc or B14 for a specific area of Birmingham
If you provide a full UK postcode, you can then set a distance around which the selection will be made
When a registered office address is used for a company, we compare it with others we've seen at the same location to build up an activity profile for the address. This activity profile allows us to reasonably accurately allow you to target a registered office address which has not been used much and so is less likely to be a mail forwarding company.
The majority of companies formed every day are "Limited by shares" companies (normal commercial companies) however you may be interested in writing to partnerships or "not for profit" (limited by guarantee) companies. You can use this filter to select company types. The figure in brackets is how many of this type have been seen in the last 31 days.
Registered offices may be at the directors home address or they could be at the trading address or maybe at an accountants or mail forwarding service. Post sent to a mail forwarding service will get to its intended recipient but by requesting a registered office be at the same postcode as an officers home address on record you may be able to better target your audience. Note: Some companies offer mail redirection for officers home addresses as well as registered offices so its not a guaranteed home address although used in conjunction with the address profile, should allow relatively accurate home address selection if a home address is preferred.
Since July 2016, companies have specified their industry classification at the point of formation, so now we can filter using it. The categories are called Standard Industrial Classification codes, or SIC codes. A full list can be found by clicking here. Use the selection box below to review and search for SIC codes and select the ones you require. You can search by typing in part of a word or the SIC code itself. There are many variations of SICs released at different times. Companies House are using the one linked to above.
Name based filtering
In July 2016, newly formed companies started receiving the SIC categories (see previous tab). Prior to this, the only way to categorise a company was to look for a phrase in the company name.
HOTELs, PUBs, RESTAURANT, CAFE, BUTCHERS, BAKERS etc
might use a company name such as THE WHITE HART
RESTAURANT LTD, THE CAPPUCCINO CAFE LTD, BOB'S BUTCHERS
LTD. Its not a guaranteed solution but if you are
looking for particular companies and maybe the SIC category is too broad for you,
it can help in some cases.
You can also indicate whether what you have typed in needs to be a whole word or not by selecting the partial word or whole word selector. BAR for example, wouldn't just match a drinking establishment but would match to companies containing BARISTA or BARKING otherwise, so if you are looking for a BAR or a PUB, select the "whole word" option. If you are looking for accountants though, ACCOUNTAN without a whole word filter will pick up ACCOUNTANTS, ACCOUNTING, ACCOUNTANCY etc
IMPORTANT: These officer based filters could greatly restrict the number of records that your filter will select if used incorrectly. If you are encountering problems, please contact us. Most users will not need to make use of them.
In the selections for occupation, nationality and country of residence, the figure shown in brackets is how many people have used this option in the last 31 days when forming their company. The descriptions are typed in manually by the applicant and so are not standardised. For country of residence, for example, people could type England, Englund, UK, U.K. etc so there is very rarely one option that covers your requirement and you should expect to find 3 or 4 variations. If the figure in brackets only says (5) next to it, there will only be a maximum of 5 records returned and by the time other filters are applied you are likely to get no matches which will leave you confused. Please ensure that unless you really only want those 5 records, that you look for similar items (such as United Kingdom) with higher numbers in brackets as well.
The age of a director can sometimes influence whether your product or service may be of interest to them. You may feel that your product or service is generally more likely to be taken up by either a younger or older audience and so would prefer to target a company where at least one director is within the age range you are looking at. Note that ages are accurate to within one year as data protection requirements gives access to month and year of birth but not day.
An officer must be between and years old (inclusive)
There are some situations where you might only want to target a company if a director is identified as having a particular occupation. The list below contains occupations provided by officers over the last 31 days (for 3 uses and above). The data is free format text so an officer can mis-spell words. Please see the note at the top of the page.
If your product or service provides language based support for example, you may wish to get in touch with companies who have a director with a specific nationality. The data is free format. Please read the note at the top of the screen.
If your service provides help for companies which have a director based in France for example - maybe you provide virtual office services and have French speaking employees to help integrate a new company into a UK based service. The data is free format text. Please read the note at the top of the screen.
Sometimes, if the service you are providing aims to take a workload from the newly formed company, you may wish to limit the company selection process to any company who only has a single director if you feel that this is more likely to produce a better take up rate
We supply named officer details, but limited partnerships do not have officers listed with Companies House and Limited Liability Partnerships can have corporate members rather than people. Do you want to have records with possibly no contact name (if you say no, you are unlikely to get partnership based companies) ?
